Moms give the best advice.
Wait! Was that an eye roll I just saw?
Sure, this might be up for a pretty lively debate, but no one can argue that moms are our compass through life.
No matter if you believe mom’s advice or you or think it’s absolutely ridiculous, you’ll never really escape her words! They’ll play over and over in your head…
And I say, that’s a good thing! A very good thing.
Welcome to My Momma Told Me! Where I’m taking mom’s advice and running with it and having a ton of fun along the way!
I’ve broken down years of mom’s advice (and this blog) into 6 categories:
- eat to live
- work it
I’ve found that when I balance these six things, my life tends to blossom.
Let me show you how…
EAT TO LIVE.
It’s a mantra, it’s a best selling book and diet program by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and it’s a huge part of this blog and my life for the past 3+ years!
Guess who told me about it? That’s right, my momma! (Bet you didn’t see that one coming!)
So, what does eat to live mean exactly?
It means forgetting all about calories, fat, protein and carbs–how many you need, what proportions, blah, blah blah.
Chuck it all out the window, right now!
Eating to live is about choosing the foods with the highest micronutrients that are most favorable to your long term survival. And it just so happens those foods are plant-based, minimally processed, no-oil and low salt.
I’ve found that a successful life stems from eating to live.
When I eat to live I’m at my most productive, I’m more creative and I’m a better mom, wife and person.
More than 90% of this blog is dedicated to sharing this way of life with you and helping you reach your full potential by eating to live!
Not for you? You have my full permission to click away and thanks for stopping by!

So, 90% of this blog is about the eat to live lifestyle, but Mom had a lot more good advice too…

Momprenuers are real and I’m on a mission to be one of them!
Here I talk about life as a work-from-home mom, being a Stella & Dot stylist, building my blog and writing about topics that interest me.
I’m also in the midst of writing my very first novel (though it’s taking a loooong time)!
Holiday ideas, birthdays and baby showers; check, check, check!
WHY I STARTED MMTM
I started My Momma Told Me as a seriously overwhelmed, 26-year-old, first-time mom.
Recently graduated from law school, and unexpectedly pregnant, my hubby and I moved clear across the country to California when my son was only 2 months old. My family, and most importantly, my mom were back in Florida.
I created MyMommaToldMe.com with the hopes of making it a forum for moms to ask questions and get advice from other moms. I soon realized that this magical (and very helpful place) already existed and it was called BabyCenter.com! Ooops!
Soon, MMTM became my creative and intellectual outlet from being a homesick and uninspired stay-at-home mom.
It literally pulled me out of one of the hardest times of my life, and I became addicted to blogging ever since.
Over the years I’ve figured out a lot about myself and MMTM has grown right along with me.
Now we’ve finally hit our stride with a mission of helping people get healthy, inspired, and creating work-from-home opportunities that challenge us and help us grow.
MORE ABOUT ME
I raise two cuties, work from home as a Stella & Dot stylist, I’m a writer (trying to finish my very first book) and my husband says our garage looks like the inside of a Michael’s store—okay, I could have a slight craft-supply hoarding problem!
When I’m not in the kitchen working on a new recipe or hanging with the kiddos you can find me holed up in my home office, blogging, writing or being crafty!
And, here’s a little bit more about me that I don’t often post about:
I’m overly-competitive at board games.
I have an unhealthy obsession with Disneyland.
I am embarrassed to admit I can read teen trilogies within a week’s time.
I sometimes get too passionate during discussions.
I talk with my hands. (I blame those last two on my Cuban side.)
Oh yeah, I’m half-Cuban.
I love meeting new people.
Sometimes I go too long without showering and my husband has to intervene.
I somehow managed to graduate from law school but have yet to be barred.
I always feel guilty that we don’t walk our dog enough.
And I’m so glad you found MMTM!
