Ooooh, THE CLAW!!! These Toy Story-inspired alien cupcakes are super-cute and perfect for your Halloween party!
It’s my favorite time of year again! In honor of our alien/space themed Halloween in 2009, I wanted to post about alien cupcakes! I was lucky enough to partake in a yummy alien cupcake that my husband’s co-worker had made for their office Halloween party. It was so cute I almost didn’t want to eat it and it was housed in a domed plastic cupcake holder that looks just like a spaceship! That was the first time I saw a domed plastic holder and I ended up using them for my wedding cupcakes!
Cruising the web, I see basically two categories of alien cupcakes: the marshmallow-based alien cupcake and the Toy Story-based aliens. I say the more aliens, the merrier but what if you had to choose just one kind to serve at this year’s ghoulish affair ?

There are pros and cons for each type, but I have a soft-spot for the marshmallow aliens in their little spaceships! The basic gist of this cupcake decoration is that you use a marshmallow to create the alien’s body and “pour” the icing on top. It’s the details that make this type of alien cupcake. and the keys are using the silver foil cupcake wrappers and of course (seriously, how much can I mention this) the cute little plastic spaceships! I’ve seen the eyes and antenna done in red (not as cute in my opinion) and I think you could jazz up the spaceships a bit with some cardstock if your really wanted to got he extra mile. But you can’t beat this cupcake decorating idea in terms of portability and simplicity of design.
I felt bad to be eating my own kind but who knew cannibalism could be so tasty!
Whereas the Toy Story type aliens take a bit more actual decorating (meaning piping bags, tips, different colored icings, and lots of clean up), the spaceship aliens use chocolate-covered sunflower seeds and candy for decoration, saving time and sanity for a busy Halloween-momma like myself! Another tally int he “pros” column for this alien cupcake is the portability factor. Your party guests can easily take their Martians home with them if they’ve already overdosed on Halloween candy and have no more room for sweets. And for some of us a cupcake is the perfect “chaser” for a Milky Way, Snickers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup extravaganza
